Biography

Gentleman Reg is stepping back into the light with the release of his third album Darby & Joan on Three Gut Records.

The music of Darby & Joan will leave you reminiscing for all the luscious melodies you heard in times gone by. But only peripherally, for with his bag of surprises, his orchestral new album is so full of wonder that everything outside of the music fades into an ambiguous backdrop.

Reg and his band have created his fullest and most satisfying release to date.
Darby & Joan was created by the following people:

Reg Vermue, Greg Millson, Simon Osborne, Will Kidman, Bryan Webb, Jim McIntyre, Owen Pallett, Dave Draves, Samir Khan, Mike Feuerstack, and Jay Ferguson.

The album features artwork by Tyler Clarke Burke and Davida Nemeroff.

Reginald Vermue is still a gentleman through and through, but with his third album, the most gentle artist on the Three Gut roster is considerably less musically shy. In comparison to his last album, the beautifully frail Make Me Pretty, Reg presents a bolder and more confident musical face. Bolstered by a full, yet tasteful, cast of musicians (primarily made up of Three Gut cronies), his pretty pop songs are filled out by multiple keyboards, violin and the odd bit of glockenspiel and pedal steel, all designed to complement, rather than overpower, the singer’s delicate vocals. While Reg is still at his best when he’s at his most vulnerable — the tender "Untouchable" and the album’s gorgeous closer "Navy Brown" are probably Darby & Joan’s best songs — upbeat numbers like "Over My Head" and the infectious "The Boyfriend Song" make the disc a stronger and meticulously balanced album.
