Happy New Year everyone. There WILL be a record this year! I know it's taking an absurd amount of time to materialize, but just trust me. The songs are mixed. The sequence is done. The name has been agreed upon. Some photos have been taken. And some drawings are being drawn. Just wait a little bit longer and we'll tell you all about it. In the meantime please come to our night of music and films. Featuring music by The Phonemes and Gentleman Reg. We will be playing along to films by Laura Cowell, Kevin Drew, Sara St. Onge, Rose Bianchi, and Jeff Woodrow. Some films are 'music videos' some aren't. Check the tour page for location and times.

Check out our latest blog entry on our myspace page to see some recent photos from the studio, and some words about the record. This is the last song. For sure. The musical part is now officially done,,, or will be by the end of the week.
Expect more news soon, and more frequently.
And please come check us out on New Years Eve at the Tranzac club. We play after the apple drops, with some other amazing bands like the Phonemes and By Divine Right!! I promise to dress up nice.
p.s. Sorry if you showed up to the tiger bar last week and there was no show. Both supporting bands, from Brooklyn, cancelled on us that morning, so we decided to call it off.

I want to draw your attention to some filmic activity. A super 8 video for the song 'You Make Me Tall' off of Darby & Joan was shot many many months ago, and then quickly... well, nothing. It just sat.
But now, thanks to the wonders of the internet can be seen on YouTube. Shot and conceived by Miss Vic, with the help of Davida Nemeroff and Jackie Grandy, with styling by the one and only LadyFag. This video was made in frigid northern weather, and literally lives were risqued! Canoes and ghetto blasters do not go hand in hand as we might have thought.
The concept was simple. Reg canoes and sings, while wearing some lacy neck piece with a giant feather. We didn't, of course, plan on freezing winds, or think the canoe would continually get stuck and almost tip several times. Davida has never used more physical strength than on this day i can assure you.
Here it is. Sweet, serene and simple. With lace!
October 31st
Check out some photos from the live talk show Eyes On Toronto. Held at the Gladstone Hotel on Oct. 27th, Stephen Eyes hosted a night of interviews, comedy and musical performances. With Maggie MacDonald, Katie Sketch (the Organ) and Gentleman Reg.

I have returned from Europe. The first Gentleman Reg tour of Europe!! Having only played a few sporadic shows there ever before. And the consensus is that it's an amazing place, which shall be revisited many times.
Check out the myspace blog for more details on the tour.
And speaking of myspace, after a year of having a page they've finally changed my URL to myspace.com/gentlemanreg, rather than a bunch of random numbers, so it's easier to find.
And now back to work on the never ending album.
I promise we'll finish it soon. And then it will come out a little bit after that. This winter perhaps. And it'll be the perfect thing to snap you out of the snowy doldrums people get here in Ontario.

I would like to tell you about some very late breaking and most exciting
news in the Gentleman Reg department of live music.
Reg has been asked to open not only for Stars, but also for Broken Social
Scene presents Kevin Drew, on their respective upcoming European tours!!!
And we couldn't be more pleased.
As soon as the Stars tour ends, Reg jumps on board the Kevin Drew tour and
keeps going, even retracing a few steps.
For all shows Reg performs solo, but, with many new toys that will be sure
to fill big spaces. Check out the tour dates here, and tell your European based
friends!
July 20th
The Rat King goes to New York City!!!
That's right, the third installment of this phenomenal musical written by
Maggie MacDonald (Republic of Safety, Hidden Cameras), with music by Bob
Wiseman and Laura Barrett.
Last year when the show was remounted for the second time, Reg was
unfortunately unable to be a part of the production, and his part was
graciously taken over by the unstoppable Keith Cole. But for this
production Reg has returned in the role of the Leader of the Rat Pack!
This is all taking place as part of the New York International Fringe
Festival, and occurs at the Lucille Lortel Theatre on Christopher Street
from August 20th to 25th, 2007.
Check theratking.com for more info and lots of updates!
July 10th
The Ohbijou album 'Swift Feet For Troubling Times' is getting a little
update since aquiring distribution. This latest version will feature new
packaging and also a new track. The new song 'Blizzards' features some Reg
vocals throughout it, and is an amazing song, so please check this album
out.
Also, a few wee shows coming up this week.
A very rare thing these days. This will only be the second and third time
respectively that Reg will have perfomed songs in the city of Toronto so far
this year. Check dates in the tour section. Reg performs both shows solo.
May 5th
It's been a long time coming, but there is a new album recorded. It's not
fully mixed yet. And still needs to find a good home, since this will be
the first Gentleman Reg album not to be released on Three Gut Records. And
visuals... it needs artwork. But it's close, and we're all happy.
Check out the blog section on our Myspace page for more details on the
record.
April 3rdI've just uploaded a few photos on my MySpace blog from a shoot I took part
in last year for this clothing shop Bully. Apparently the shots are making
rounds in some magazines, Vice and TCHAD, though i've yet to see these. The
shots were taken by Brendan Meadows.
There are loads more too, which hopefully I'll be able to share soon.
February 13th
While in Europe in January we stopped by a radio station in Munich and
recorded some 'unplugged' versions of a few songs. One was 'The Boyfriend
Song', and another is a brand new song with the working title of 'Oh My
God'. This was the first time ever performing this song, and it's looking
like it will most likely be on the new record were currently working on.
And now, you can check these out online.
Both songs feature Greg Millson on percussion and Dan Werb on piano and
keyboards and myself on guitar and vocals. enjoy! For more on our trip to Europe, check out some great photos of the second London show we played at the
Windmill in Brixton, which were taken by the lovely and amazingly stylish
Marina Williams.
And for more tales on the trip check out Dickon Edwards blog to read
accounts of this same show and of our lunch date (go to the entries dated January 14 and 15th).
January 22nd
If you haven't already heard there is an amazing compilation out callled
Friends in Bellwoods. It's amazing! You should buy it! There are two cd's
with tons of amazing bands that you love on it. We contributed a 4-track
demo of the song 'Over my Head', which originally appears on our record
'Darby & Joan'. And best of all proceeds from the cd go to the Daily Bread
Food Band of Toronto.

Sorry it's been so quiet up here. It's not that we've been sleeping or resting
or anything like that. Quite the opposite. It's been a time for change
this last while. Change in sound, change in management, change in
lineup... maybe even a name change is in order to reflect all this
upheaval. Who knows. Anything can happen at this point.
What I know for sure though is that there's been lots of writing going on.
Time to make a new album. Spent a few days in the studio recently and
pieced some things together, so well see if they stick. Stay tuned for news
on a new album in the new year.
But before that even. Very last minute. Actually incredibly last minute.
There will be some shows in Europe. Germany and the U.K. to be more
specific. The first two weeks of January. Tell your European friends about it.
Check back soon for specific dates. Or go to the Myspace page, some of
them are up there already.
Thanks for checking in,
Reg

Today we give you some reading material regarding the band.
The first thing is a review of Darby & Joan published last fall in the
fantastic London based Plan B magazine. It was written by the ever wonderful
Dickon Edwards, who you may remember brought Gentleman Reg over to London
last year to play their first ever shows in the U.K. And now he has given
us our first U.K. press as well. All praise Dickon! Read about his
wonderful life here: http://dickonedwards.co.uk/diary. Read the review here.
The second is an interview Reg gave to the Canadian magazine BACK a few
months ago. To read the interview go here.
January 23rd
